Once a dog “store,” now a rescue space… a shelter group hits The Mall this holiday season!

With over 300 dogs in residence and many, many, many felines as well, EHR was asked to “set up shop” inside a now closed “puppy store” in the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Rockaway, New Jersey.

This is a HUGE milestone for rescue. Dog “sales” have ceased and adoptions have begun this holiday season. After the puppy “store” was forced to close, the seasonal business that was setting up in the vacant store invited EHR to share the space and bring in their homeless pets.  Imagine the traffic through the newly set up adoption center during the holiday season!

While the venture has just begun, I venture to guess that adoptions will soar with bustling shoppers stopping by for visits (some that may not have headed to a shelter for their next pet) and realizing that shelter animals are not throw aways but true treasures. I checked out the new center located right next to the busy Sears store on the Mall’s lower lever next to the main entrance and it was packed! Dogs visiting with adopters, volunteers collecting applications and product sales going on to help the shelter. I am surely heading there with a cameraman and capturing this great story on film for our PGR family. Wonderful idea…amazing concept….let this be a template for more!
